In light of my latest post, it is interesting to note that of the 15 cyclones in the northern and eastern seas during April (1970-2011), only 2 turned away from the QLD coast (as forecasted for the current cyclone by the GFS model). It is far more common to see a WSW track to hit the north QLD coast, as forecast by the ECMWF and BOM models. The most famous for us being Severe Tropical Cyclone Monica in 2006.
