WIND!...WHAT WIND

It has been blowing a gale over the last week but B.O.M. had predicted very little wind over the 12th and 13th so we thought we would try the flats and islands around Bynoe.  Well B.O.M. was spot on, the weather was bloody magnificent, but a bit cold early morning.   Now if your superstitious I suppose, that Friday being the 13th and a full moon you might be cautious.   Jacob was cooking steaks at Sand Palms and told us that he never gets requests for 'blue' or rare steaks, but on Friday he had half a dozen requests for them.   Raw meat, Full Moon and Friday the 13th.!!!  The wine and beer washed away all the worry and no gremlins or monsters appeared. That's our story anyway!

Fishing was great, but always remember to get you SD card out of the computer after you download, because Roger forgot it, and on Thursday we took three photos of the smooth sea then the internal memory was full.  Bugger.  Missed a lot of photos, but he did figure out how to wipe those photos and make them smaller.

A 60+cm flats barra.
We saw, and dropped quite a few barra, and it seems as though the rats have gone, because they all appeared to be over 60cm.   Got two in the 70's on Thursday and four in the 60's on Friday.

Hooked a monster fish on the low around Knife Island and after two trips to the backing and it pulling the boat around, it cut the line.  We did not see it, so have no idea what it was, acted a bit like a big barra heading for the rocks but it seemed to have the speed and power of a big trevally?  Irene had got a 103cm jewie in the same spot a few days before, so maybe it was one of them, we will never know.

Heaps of these 60+ queenies
If you get a chance to fish the windless days out there take it, its cool and the water is clear.  There were some monster milkies around Knife Island so might even try for them next time.

Roxley found heaps of blue salmon on the flats, and a group of campers from Sand Palms got a heap of them too.

  1. Good stuff Cathy and Roggie, saw your rig at sand palms on Sat morning as we drove to the ramp.

We (show ponies) had a blast on the flats with barra everywhere, one flat we saw 60 plus fish in about an hour with many willing to eat, also of interest we chased a big barra of 90cm plus along a flat for about 400m, managed to get about 40 casts on its nose for nothing, when it got closer to the boat we noticed a large fresh bite mark on its flanks, no wonder it wasn't hungry !

Saw quite a few crocs yesterday too, way more than normally spotted, one in particular about 3m was not too worried about the boat, could have been just the cold ?
