about us

A social group of dedicated fly fishers who are passionate about fly fishing in the tropical north of Australia and equally as passionate about the close camaraderie this sport brings. This passion and dedication led to the creation of the NT Flyfishers Social Mob blog site; an interactive and creative outlet where everyone can share our wonderful fly fishing adventures and link into the “after fishing” social events we enjoy in this incredible part of the world.

CORROBOREE MOTHERS DAY

Report from Di and Hags, who had a quick fish this morning. Apparently you can hear the barra boofing but most appear to be just in the grass on the edges or behind the pandanas because the water is still up.  Plenty of Tarpon, a few small toga and small barra.  Lots of weed, so tie those weed guards, a few of us heading out early to survey (no not tethering) the fish.  Apparently a lot of that loose weed around.

Glen Hubble reported that during the DFR Fresh competition, the barra responded to  a very fast stripping of the fly.  So try all types of retrieves.  They were along the edges as usual, and only small. Glen and his mate, Quinton Pope, who won the competition, were the top team, and caught 79 of the 130 barra caught during that competition.  He was using an intermediate which he allowed to drop for about 5 seconds then the quick retrieve.

Interesting  weather, there is plenty of wind leading up to the weekend, which should help the drop in the water, but here is the present forecast for Saturday.   We might have a shower or storm, that will make it interesting.

Saturday 22:00 EST
A broad high will continue to keep southeastern Australia and the interior dry, while directing a few showers onto the eastern seaboard. A weak trough will cause the odd shower over southwest WA. Low pressure will lead to a few showers and storms over the NT Top End.
