about us

A social group of dedicated fly fishers who are passionate about fly fishing in the tropical north of Australia and equally as passionate about the close camaraderie this sport brings. This passion and dedication led to the creation of the NT Flyfishers Social Mob blog site; an interactive and creative outlet where everyone can share our wonderful fly fishing adventures and link into the “after fishing” social events we enjoy in this incredible part of the world.

A bit more on togas

Really great report from Dion.  It brings back very fond memories for me of fly fishing for togas out at Mardugal.  Just following on a bit from what Jim said, the togas love to clean up their area so, for example, if a tree blossom dropped and then sank into their neighbourhood they would immediately pick it up and move it away.  With that in mind Roggie matched the blossom and created the tree blossom fly.  It worked a treat and at one stage over 60 togas were caught on this fly.  Of course some were also lost.  It's that coordination of the strip/strike that you had to time perfectly and then execute!

The 'blossom' fly
You may well be asking how the heck we know about a saratogas' housekeeping habits? Well, a very good mate of ours, Wayne Hinton, many years ago, went for a dive in Manton Dam and actually saw this happening.

Another successful fly that we use at Mardugal, Yellow Water, Home and Jim Jim, was the aptly named "Cooinda Viper".  Of course it's really a 'vampire', but the boys got confused when naming it.  They knew it started with a "v"!!  I think too many reds!!

Now for a bit more on Arapaima...........they have been successfully caught on fly.  There is an ecotourism venture happening in Guyana in conjunction with the local villages where you can go and target these majestic creatures.
