ONE TO THE WIND

I may exaggerate a little in this report, but all of course, is true.....but you do have to remember this is a 'fishing' story and as they say in the classics...that's fishing.

The weekend of the 16th and 17th did have indications that it may be a bit windy,  well for most of the days it blew in the mornings but in some parts of Bynoe it did drop off a bit in the afternoons.

Lord Jim went up to Turnbull from what I am told, not sure of his catch, but it apparently blew a gale up there.   Eugene fished around the bays near Knife Island.   Saw plenty of barra on the flats but they were jumpy, but he managed a few good fish for the sashimi and the cook up.  No barra though.   He was trialling his new seven weight and on one occasion had to get the fly 'out' of the water pretty quick when a couple of monster trevally passed by, otherwise he's still be out there fighting them on the smaller rod.

Jack with one of his barra on a pink 'No see um' fat boy hybrid he tied.
The 'White' boat fished down in the river areas, and only managed a few fish for the feed....one barra that was too small to keep.  The 'Tom Thumb' that Dion fishes from would have taken a beating.  Well it is a 4m punt with only a 15 or 25hp I think.   Dion did however catch some fish, but that was after he found a sheltered spot and had a five hour sleep before he fished.  The barra however were just undersize so had to go back.  He too, did manage to cook up a few trays of fish nuggets.

Sashimi  entee'
Not sure yet how the Hagley's went but I'm told they got fish too.  Cliffy and Max got a 120 cm mac off Knife the day before, Les and Irene didn't report any fish.   The 'Insight' crew, Dottie and Graeme reported barra catches, but all undersize, and Graeme said that the 'Cold' (I think it was about 8C) closed the fish down a lot. Young, Mitchell, and his mates gave similar reports of skittish barra on the flats.

Great for sashimi
Masterchef?
Well I suppose the wind won, but everyone had a great time,  plenty to eat,  but really really cold!!!! everyone was rugged up and in bed early.

Long weekend next weekend,  tides are high in the morning, but look good for pelagics,  plenty of movement and you would not believe....light wind is forecast....bugger.  Sams 'No see um' 007 flies should do well in the harbour.
