Roger & Cathie proved some spots to try around Indian & Turtle Islands. Our first spot had a Barra feeding on bait at the end of the run out tide. After 10 minutes we moved on & I realised I had stopped at the wrong spot!
Second stop there were salmon feeding voraciously at the mouth of the creek. After many frustrating casts, my deckie was heard to mutter "lets go somewhere else". Shortly after I hooked & landed my first Threadfin on fly. Said deckie then proceeded to continue fishing with my fly rod! Suggestions of moving to another spot were met with fierce & colourful language. Soon Jack had his first Blue Salmon in the boat.
Once the tide started to run in the Salmon stopped feeding so we headed for Turtle Island. Our sounder was playing up with the screen freezing. This resulted in some mud churning as some spots were still too low. Queenfish started feeding alongside the rocky outcrop adjacent to the island so we headed over for a look. We landed a few but they were moving quickly & hard to follow.
Heading in towards the island we noticed that despite the water clarity Barra tails were sticking up like flags in the water. Despite many casts we could not tempt a Barra, I did however land a flathead.
I also hooked a shark briefly (it looked like at salmon at first!). Unfortunately the wind had picked up & we decided to head back to the ramp. Total count for the day 1 thready, 1 blue, 5 queenies, 1 flathead & 1 catfish.
