Shady Camp 3-3-14

Here are a few shots for everyones interest in the water levels at Shady Camp.

The water is dropping pretty fast and looks great, the only trouble today was the apparent lack of barra around the place. Out of four other guide boats and about five recos I spoke to I heard/saw around two barra caught for the day. This includes the main barrage, mini barrages, coastal creeks and the mouth of sampan and tommy cut creeks. 

I'm sure however it was just a tide and time thing as reports from the building neaps were excellent for big fish out the front.

It seems like it is still a little early for good numbers of barra at the barrages, however there are GAZILIONS of Tarpon at the mini barrages, none of them hungry for any dark side lures at all.

I eventually cracked them when I drop shot rigged a small white clouser on a spin rod which did the damage (as they do).

Great conditions coming up with winds from the SE and water dropping, my tip is to be out there as often as you can from now on as it will really fire sometime over the next few weeks. There will be great opportunity for wanders to get some good big barra fishing too at the coastal creeks and the big creek mouths, good water clarity and plenty of small mullet around.

Another thing to keep in mind particularly for the kids and ladies is that with the abundance of BIG Tarpon around this year there are WORLD RECORDS to be set and broken.

I'm currently in the process of submitting three dark side line class records after fishing for an hour with two mates a few weeks ago.

Yesterday at the casting there was a lot of talk about how the fishing was going, some had been out to Bynoe on Saturday, and although they had seen plenty of fish, not many were caught, reports last night back that up, flighty barra in the choppy conditions and not many fish caught.  The was nearly a seven metre movement though and the wind would not have helped.

Next weekend looks like a "Shady" weekend with quiet a few heading out for the neapish tides, could be good if the weather holds.  We notice that there are now group campsites with full cooking facilities out at Point Stuart Lodge, so we will investigate that further to see if it might be a good idea for a group fishing/flytying/drinking weekend out there. (see below)

Safari Camps

Situated in our private grounds close to amenities are 4 safari style campsites, which include a number of twin share tents and fully equipped kitchens.

Each tent is canvas roofed with insect proof shade cloth allowing for breeze through cooling. Camp mattresses are supplied (no linen). The kitchens are fully functional which include gas bbq’s, cook tops, refrigerator, lights & ceiling fans. They allow for comfortable entertaining and dinning away from the insects and wet season weather.

They are ideal for groups of fisherman, tour groups, family groups. The secluded areas have ample parking for vehicles, boats & tour vehicles.
Each camp can accommodated up to 16 people.

The following weekend ....Most agreed that a four metre movement in the tide with a low around the two metre mark is often the best time for flats and rockbars, and this type of tide is happening on the weekend of the 15th March.

The next two weeks, have pretty good tides too, which is a change from last year, but we will have a look at them a bit later when we see how the weather is going.

Just on the weather....you will need a crystal ball to predict it...but the old heads say that a lot more rain is coming and it will be a long wet.   But remember their crystal balls may be obsolete?
